There are many designs to choose from with each one adding their own special and unique touch to the room that they are in.

Another reason people choose to cover up their existing option instead of replacing it with a new fixture is the cost. It would take more money to take down an existing fluorescent light fixture and put up a new light fixture than it would to just replace a panel. In fact, the cost of one decorative light panel is roughly 4 or more times cheaper than the process. Taking down the fluorescent fixture often requires a professional because they are fairly complicated and special care should be taken with the bulbs and parts. This is not something a DIY'er could accomplish on their own. Replacing a light panel, however, is something that a DIY can do which leads to the next reason.

Almost anyone can replace a light panel with a decorative fluorescent light panel. The process is not only easy, but it is also fairly quick. The completed task is dwindled down even more when the company you are purchasing the panel from is able to cut the product to the exact measurements of the fixture. By unhooking the latches on the fixture, unscrewing one side of the frame, taking out the old panel and putting in the new, you have a process that is easily completed in a matter of 30 minutes or less. If the acrylic has to be cut, add another 20 minutes or so to accomplish that. Not only does having the acrylic cut to specifications make it quicker when installing the decorative fluorescent light panel, it also helps prevent damaging the panel. Cutting the panel yourself, if you are not careful, can easily damage or crack the acrylic panel.
